Walking in Space

We return to our Space theme (and space itself) with this iconic image from the American Gemini IV mission in June of 1965. It was the first American mission to include a spacewalk (properly known as an EVA, or Extra-Vehicular Activity), carried out by astronaut Ed White (who would tragically die in the Apollo 1 fire three years later. The spacewalk lasted 20 minutes and was the highlight of the mission, providing proof that America was just as capable as the Soviets and also giving us many stunning pictures, like this one of White framed against the Earth. In his mirrored faceplate you can see a distorted reflection of the Gemini IV capsule itself. This historic image makes a perfect wallpaper for any fans of space travel.
