HMS Victory

HMS Victory, Nelson’s legendary flagship at Trafalgar, was a 100-gun first-rate ship of the line, built in 1765 and remaining in service to this day. With over 800 men aboard, conditions were cramped and battles were fierce and brutal. Cannons fired, muskets flashed and men, including Lord Nelson himself, succumbed to mortal wounds. This image shows Victory as she is today, preserved in drydock in Portsmouth. Whilst she is open to the public as a tourist attraction, she remains a commissioned warship (hence the White Ensign flying proudly at her bows) of the Royal Navy and serves as the flagship of the Second Sea Lord. This great image makes a perfect background wallpaper for any fan of naval history.
